When we established our family-owned business over 30 years ago, we imagined a company that would create opportunities for the people and communities we touched. A company that would give back – in every way possible. To you, through your travel experience, and to the environment. This plays a central aspect of the design and manufacturing processes of our products.
At Travel Blue, we’re on an ongoing journey to make a difference for future generations. Our promise has always been to respect and care for our planet, our employees, our colleagues throughout the value chain, and our customers. We have strong beliefs that guide us, and we’re putting our beliefs into action.
A commitment to widespread change
True progress involves making a continuous effort to create the economic, environmental and social conditions that allow people and communities to thrive. It means engaging our employees and customers across all our brands in our effort to support a more sustainable world.
Taking social and environmental responsibility is an inextricable part of Travel Blue’s DNA. We believe in a long-term approach to dealing with complex sustainability issues, and we work to ensure that sustainability is integrated into everything we do. In fact, we’ve been doing this long before ‘Corporate Social Responsibility’ (CSR) became fashionable.
We’ve always strived to ensure that the people who manufacture our products work in safe environments and under fair conditions. We’re committed to minimizing our environmental footprint. And dedicated to supporting the communities in which we operate.
Our Products: Responsible Production and Design
At Travel Blue, we want our products to give back – to you and to the environment.
This is central to all of the design and manufacturing processes for our products. As such, since 2012, we’ve been members of BSCI (now Amfori/BSCI) – the leading global business association for open and sustainable trade (www.amfori.org).
Forward-Thinking, Responsible Production & Design
Product Sustainability
At Travel Blue, we work closely with our product designers and developers to balance the needs of providing great products, while also reducing our impact on the environment. We improve eco-friendliness within our design without compromising functionality.
“Disposable” is very much against what we believe in. We make high-quality products that serve our customers for many years. When we design new products, we create them as a renewable source of inspiration, with timeless designs.
Responsible Materials
The choice of materials is about making responsible decisions. When we’re not able to use renewable resources, we aim for recycled or recyclable ones.
Plastic
Any new plastic created today can be a plastic waste problem for tomorrow. That’s why we’re on a journey towards only using recycled and/or renewable plastics. Most plastics are oil-based, which means they come from a non-renewable resource. So, whenever possible, we use as much recycled or renewable plastic in our products. Today, about one third of our plastic items come from renewable and/or recycled sources.
PET plastics in our products comply with the strictest laws and safety standards. We have detailed requirements on the use of chemicals and other substances in the manufacturing process, taking into account your health and the environmental impact.
Fabrics
We create highly durable products that will serve our customers on countless trips over the years, far exceeding their expected use. This explains why we use a wide range of high quality, sturdy, renewable fabrics. Naturally, our fabrics go further, because we use recycled, renewable materials and recycle them too.
Down
Down is a durable, natural, warm and lightweight material, perfect for our Travel and Neck Pillows. Being a natural material, it is biodegradable and recyclable.
Responsible Packaging
Sustainable packaging is a huge priority for us. We use 80% recycled cardboard in our packaging – because every box deserves a second chance. We print our packaging with Soy-based ink. When we use plastic, it is always 100% PET. We also design our packages to fit the size of the product exactly, minimizing waste.
Logistical Eco-Efficiency
Our global logistics system is designed to save on transport. We mostly utilize land and sea transportation, which have smaller footprints than aerial transportation. The fact that we have warehouses around the world also reduces the transportation footprint. Our designed-to-fit-the-product packages reduce the volume of the goods transported. And with limited warehousing, we help save on energy usage too.
Improving Worker Wellbeing
As a global company, Travel Blue has responsibility for all of our employees, including the workers employed by our suppliers. And we believe it’s fundamental that all the individuals who create our products are treated with respect and work in safe, fair and healthy conditions.
All the companies we work with are tested to comply with BSCI Social Responsibility requirements. Their unbiased and unannounced audits ensure that also our partners fulfill our standards and offer fair conditions for their workers.
Working Towards a Sustainable Future
At Travel Blue, we know there’s always room for improvement. This is why we’re working on a 5-year plan to become 100% sustainable. By working with others and challenging ourselves, our goal is to help tackle the global challenges of sustainability to help achieve a better tomorrow.
